I have played D&D since the 1980's. While I greatly prefer a lot of what 2E used, the Exandria products are very well thought out, well presented and create an in-depth and great world setting.
My youngest children 9 and 11 are getting into D&D now and I am basing their entire campaign in Exandria. We started with a modified version of a level 0 dungeon called Treasure hunt and are moving into the larger world of Exandria from there.
Explorer's Guide to Wildmount is a great tome to expand your 5e adventures! That being said, it IS from WOTC, so parts of it read a bit like Ikea instructions. Prepare accordingly. New classes, creatures, etc are amazing, it's just a bit dry, so no five stars this time.
It's a Christmas gift that I know he will love
I love Exandia and adore the resources provided in this book to allow me to set my own adventures in that world.
This such a great setting, with fantastically consistent lore and thoughtful writing. Whether you’re a fan of Critical Role and want to incorporate it into a campaign or just want to read for fun (it’s very immersive) - or if you’ve never watched CR and want a new setting, this is an absolutely worthy buy.
