A ready-to-play Level 1 adventure with 9 pre-generated characters, praised as "easy to prep and run" with strong social interaction and collaborative worldbuilding. Customers loved the "whodunit" theme and festival challenges. Some felt it worked better as a short campaign than a one-shot due to material depth, and a few preferred firmer groundwork over heavy player worldbuilding.

The Wish Thief - A Daggerheart Birthday Adventure was a cool run with my group.
I was watching the GenCon stream for Darrington Press when I was reminded this adventure existed. A fun little adventure for free! Who could ask for more?
Amazing book and fantastic addition to the core rules and playset. Love what was added.
A lovely little adventure. Can be played in one sitting. Everyone at the table had a blast. Presents lots of opportunities for the players to add to the story and it has a nice progression from roleplay to chase to combat.
I really enjoyed this adventure I added it in the beginning of my daggerheart campaign with the monster hunter campaign frame in the book my group really enjoyed it the pacing was great the chase was fun and the final conclusion was epic I hope you guys make more adventure books and more lore
Had a really good session with my friends using The Wish Thief, Daggerheart has been amazing so far and this was just what I needed to get the ball rolling with my friends.
I was looking for an adventure to entertain my kids and their cousins, so I downloaded The Wish Thief. I have played Daggerheart for close to a year now as a player and absolutely love it, and I want to get my kids playing (my 9 year old is one session into a Witherwild campaign with his other cousins). This adventure is a fun way to introduce the system and keep players of any age entertained.
Originally I was expecting it to be just a basic one-shot run it once and be done kind of deal. It has all the right pieces in all the right places to make this fun for first-timers or old heads and everyone in between. This was a great way to speed up learning the game for our group and would recommend over and over again
Amazing
Ran this as a birthday gift to my daughter (also pur first playthrough of Daggerheart), and she absolutely loved it. Absolutely recommend!
Looking forward to running it for my group. If I can get them to shake 5e for a night..
I ran this module for a charity event supporting my local Pride Week. It worked great, and we had a lot of fun.
It was a little tough during the investigation part, but we were able to make it through.
I have run this with 3 groups, they all have made the living gift an animal then accused it of the crime. 10/10
Also bonus prefab characters I've been wanting for a while
Had such a fun time running this adventure love it
This was an amazing way to introduce my characters to Daggerheart and to say they are hooked is an understatement now Im planning an entire campaign for them haha
As a daggerheart game master, I had a fantastic time running this adventure. It brought up new ways to play the game, was throughoutly enjoyed by all my players, and I feel like the experience of running it will significantly improve my future daggerheart endevours. I recommend it to anyone interested in the system and its philosophy, as it truly embraces daggerhearts signature flavor of collaborative storytelling and worldbuilding.
That being said, when I experienced the adventure as a player, I throughoutly enjoyed it still, but the final encounter killed our party—which was relatively small. This adventures final encounter catches everyone by surprise with its difficulty. Even with each party member succeeding on their own risk it all death moves, we still were defeated. As someone who experienced the adventure on both sides of the screen, I think the final solo was a bit too harsh for a tier 1 adventure— or at least a tier 1 adventure that keeps a light tone and assumes victory. In terms of damage, difficulty, and abilities, it just ended up being too difficult for a smaller party, even with the reduced number of supports and skulks in the encounter. I’d strongly encourage any potential game master to tune the encounter to their party not only by changing the number of adversaries, but also by reducing the statistics of the final solo.
A fully contained, packaged, and ready to play right out of the box start up adventure for Level 1. It even includes 9 pre-generated characters, or players could create their own and use this as a starting off point for a full campaign. Well written with plenty of background information for the GameMaster to familiarize and use during play.
Likes: it was sooooo fun to have an adventure with this much social interaction and challenges. NPCs were intriguing and fun in turns. The ending reveal/combat was a fun chase& encounter.
Stuff left out: spent so much time on the festival challenges before the party (and the collaborative worldbuilding aspect of that and the gifts), that we investigated maybe 2 people AT the party before we sped it up with 'Stabbitha' making a break for it.
Result: this feels like enough material for a RPing table (which we are) to have been more than an oneshot to get through all of what was presented. Like a starter module maybe? Or an inciting incident of a campaign? But I'm also well aware that our play time at the table was really limited at 3 hours bc of people's schedules too.
😌
The mechanics and standees are lovely!
I think Daggerheart already has great DM/PLAYER interaction mechanics. I didn't like having so many world building questions for players, and neither did they. I don't really think it's a foundation for the system either, it's just one way to play any TTRPG and shouldn't be imposed. I'm looking for modules and campaigns with firmer groundwork. For me, the setting, environments, characters, and happenings need to be clear and set. But that's just me... Maybe you could build it, and mention the places where you have the leeway to ask a player what the info is instead? Might be too much to ask for a free adventure though... Looking forward to what comes next!
I haven’t played this one yet but I’m so excited to. I usually write my own one shots for my family but this made my day when I saw it was free. I play Daggerheart weekly and I can tell this is a fantastic little one shot. I love the way the players create their own suspect and then solve it unwittingly. BRILLIANT.
this is a very good adventure, i enjoyed that it leans more to the colaborative worldbuilding that daggerheart encourages. i do think that it would have work better as a short adventure instead of a one shot, that way it could have more guidance in ramifications that the adventure could have, especially from the third act to the last act. Awesome adventure though, my players and I had a blast with it, one of the characters died, and they "stole" the wish to bring her back, so they where the wish thiefs all along.
I ran the adventure. It was a great starting adventure and did a good job delivering the feel / vibe of Daggerheart.
It was a good reminder of some of things I should be doing as a DM that I started to drift away from.
Just played this with friends, some who were brand new to Daggerheart and we had so much fun! It was easy to prep and run from the GM side, I loved the opportunities the players had to contribute to the shape of the world and the story. A grand time was had by all!
Ran this on an off night for my table where not everyone could make it for our main game. My players LOVED the "whodunit" theme, getting to collaboratively build Bankburg. Can't wait to run it again!
10 out of 10 me and my friends really love the story and how it went
This adventure has everything you want in a Daggerheart One Shot. I highly recommend it to anyone hoping to pickup the game or to anyone wanting to have a good time with their friends
This is a cute and a wonderful adventure module, and a great way to celebrate Daggerhearts birthday. Even if it's not for an anniversary/birthday, I would still play this because of how fun it was.
Nice starter
