The King is Dead. Long Live the King!
When things started to tip sideways in the RPG kingdom, I got worried. Not because I’m a creator, but I just watched so many unforced errors repeat. I watched the wave rise of independent Heirs to the Throne, and I thought, No. I’ll wait to see what Critrole does. I didn’t understand the beta playtest well, but watching Age of Umbra sold me. I’ve started introducing some homebrew mechanics into my 5e games to get my 3 separate tables I run once a month each, ready for the full conversion to Daggerheart, and even just that slight intro has improved combat and my games for sure! So glad I bought it from you guys because having the digital .pdf to distribute to my players has been phenomenal.
Still waiting on the sale of the stand alone GM screen, or at least the GM screen as a purchasable .pdf so I can make my own.
About the physical product I received. I will admit to being a bit of a binding and book snob, so while I hoped for Smythe sewn pages and embossed hardcovers, like you see put out regularly from Lost Art Press, I was unsurprised, and maybe a little comforted, to find the cheep binding of probably Chinese factories. Still this is in the tradition and matches almost all of my other RPG books, which makes symmetry and that can also be good.
The art, oh my god the artwork in this work is next level. Out of the park and maybe out of the solar system. The cards are beautiful.
And props to you guys for citing your sources and inspirations. Love that happening for once!
Overall I'm super happy with the product. Can’t wait to convert my tables. Happy to see things like Age of Umbra to help set a baseline for running the system in my head.
Thanks a bunch. Can’t wait to see what’s next.
